The Paula’s Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Plumping Intensive Moisturizer is a richer, cushiony facial cream designed to replenish moisture, support the skin barrier and help dry skin look smoother and plumper.
The strongest benefit during my use was how deeply hydrating the cream felt. Because it already contains Paula’s Choice’s three-peptide complex, I also do not feel the need to apply a separate peptide serum underneath it. This makes it easier to build a simpler routine without missing out on peptides.
Despite being the more intensive version, it layers cleanly with the other products in my routine. I experienced no pilling, balling up or visible pieces of product forming across my skin.

Three Pro-Collagen Peptides
The formula contains three different peptides:
- Acetyl sh-Hexapeptide-5 Amide Acetate: a water-binding peptide used to support a plumper and more hydrated-looking surface.

For me, their practical advantage is routine simplicity. Because the moisturiser already contains all three peptides, I do not feel that I also need to apply a separate peptide serum.
Red Micro-Algae Extract
The ingredient list includes red algae extracts such as Gigartina stellata and Chondrus crispus. Paula’s Choice says its red micro-algae technology helps trap water within the skin’s upper layers, creating a reserve of hydration.
This supports the immediate cushioned feeling associated with a rich moisturiser while complementing the formula’s lipid-based ingredients.
Moisture-Locking Lipid Technology
The formula contains several rich emollient and lipid-supporting ingredients, including caprylic/capric triglyceride, myristyl myristate, oleyl erucate, squalane and sunflower seed oil.
These ingredients help soften the skin and reduce the amount of moisture escaping from its surface. Behenyl alcohol is also present near the top of the ingredient list. This is a moisturising fatty alcohol and should not be confused with the more drying forms of alcohol sometimes used in skincare.
Glycerine, Betaine and Sodium Hyaluronate
Glycerine, betaine, propanediol and sodium hyaluronate are humectants that help attract and retain water within the upper layers of the skin. Their presence helps explain why I found the moisturiser so deeply hydrating.
Squalane and Dimethicone
Squalane softens the skin and supports a more comfortable barrier, while dimethicone provides slip and helps limit moisture loss.
Dimethicone is sometimes blamed for product pilling, but pilling depends on the complete formula, the quantity applied and the products layered around it. I did not experience any balling up with this moisturiser.
Vitamin E, Adenosine and Vitamin B12
Tocopherol, or vitamin E, provides antioxidant and skin-conditioning support. Adenosine is included to help support smoother-looking skin, while cyanocobalamin, also known as vitamin B12, gives the cream its subtle pink colour.
Paula’s Choice states that the product is vegan and formulated without fragrance, added dyes or parabens. It does contain dimethicone, so it is not silicone-free.
Texture, Finish and Airless Jar
This is a rich, cushiony cream rather than a lightweight gel moisturiser. It has been created for skin that needs longer-lasting comfort and moisture, particularly when the skin feels dry, tight or depleted.
The cream comes in an airless jar with a push-down top. Pressing the top dispenses the product without needing to place your fingers inside a traditional open jar. This helps control how much is used while limiting unnecessary exposure of the remaining formula.
Paula’s Choice recommends applying one or two pumps to the face and neck. Despite its richer format, it layered cleanly in my routine without pilling or balling up.
My Results With the Intensive Peptide Moisturizer
The most noticeable result for me was deep hydration. This feels like a substantial final skincare step rather than a very light lotion that absorbs without leaving dry skin feeling properly replenished.
I also appreciate being able to reduce the number of separate products in my routine. Since the moisturiser already contains a three-peptide complex, I can move from my chosen treatment directly to moisturiser without adding another peptide serum.
Using fewer layers can make a routine quicker and may reduce the likelihood of incompatible textures rubbing against one another. In this case, the cream worked well with the rest of my routine and did not pill or form visible residue.
I would be cautious about promising dramatic lifting or wrinkle removal. My clearest personal result was hydration. Well-hydrated skin can naturally feel softer and look smoother and more cushioned, while changes in firmness and established lines require consistent use and will vary between individuals.
Understanding the 120-Hour Hydration Claim
Paula’s Choice says the Intensive Moisturizer is clinically proven to hydrate for up to 120 hours. This claim is based on instrumental measurements from an independent study involving 35 subjects compared with their starting measurements.
The brand also says the formula improved the skin barrier within 24 hours in a separate measurement involving 35 subjects. Visible plumping and improvements in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles were assessed after four weeks in a study involving 33 subjects.
These findings are useful when understanding how the formula performed under controlled testing. However, they do not mean that every person will experience exactly five days of noticeable hydration after one application. Cleansing habits, weather, skin type and the rest of a routine will all affect the result.
How to Use It
Morning Routine
- Cleanse the skin gently.
- Apply toner, exfoliant or a targeted serum if used.
- Press the airless jar to dispense one or two pumps.
- Apply the cream evenly over the face and neck.
- Allow it to settle briefly.
- Finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher.
Evening Routine
- Remove sunscreen and makeup, then cleanse.
- Apply any evening exfoliant, retinoid or targeted treatment.
- Finish with one or two pumps of the Intensive Moisturizer.

Can It Be Used With Retinol, Vitamin C, AHA or BHA?
Paula’s Choice states that the peptide cream can be layered with commonly used skincare ingredients, including retinoids, vitamin C and exfoliating acids.
Because this is a moisturiser rather than an exfoliating or retinoid treatment, its primary role is to provide hydration and comfort at the end of the routine. That may be especially useful when stronger active products leave the skin feeling dry.
Compatibility does not mean that every skin type will tolerate several powerful treatments at once. Introduce active products gradually and reduce their frequency if irritation occurs. During the daytime, always finish with sunscreen.
